Breakdown Procedures

If you are out on the road when the breakdown occurs then take the necessary precautions to protect the passengers.

If on a motorway ensure that passengers leave the vehicle and move onto the embankment away from the vehicle unless you judge it would be more dangerous for them to do so. In this case ensure that they remain in the vehicle and keep their seat belts on and that the vehicle hazard lights are on. At night, turn on the side and interior lights also.

In case of a significant delay, inform anyone still waiting to be picked up and those people waiting at home for friends or relatives to return.

  • Inform a CCT official of what has happened.

Whatever the nature of the incident you must follow the Vehicle Defect Reporting procedure.
