Equal Opportunities Policy

ÅBack

The Board of Trustees recognises that everyone in society has a contribution to make with a right to equal treatment.

The Board of Trustees has a duty to ensure that no trustee, job applicant, staff member, volunteer, individual or group, to whom it provides a service, will in any way discriminate or be discriminated against or suffer harassment on the grounds of:

      • Race, nationality or ethnic origin
      • Gender or trans-gender status
      • Pregnancy
      • Marital status
      • Sexual Orientation or preference
      • Age
      • Different abilities in relation to physical and mental health
      • Political or religious belief
      • Class or social background
      • Employment status
      • Unrelated criminal convictions.

Occasions may arise where legal duties under Equal Opportunity Legislation are in conflict with other duties (e.g. There is a minimum and a maximum age for minibus drivers).  Where such conflicts arise, the Board of Trustees will endeavour to be sympathetic to the needs of the individual. Specific conflicts may occur over such matters as:  Charity Commission Regulations, Public Liability Insurance, Minibus Driver Insurance, Criminal Records Bureau checks and Protection of Children Act and Protection of Vulnerable Adults Act.

Any complaint of discrimination or harassment should be made in writing to the chairman of the Board of Trustees, who will then follow the procedures in the Complaints Policy.
