The Association’s 3 prime objects are:

(1) To provide and maintain non-profit making community transport services,

  • To assist the charitable work of organisations and bodies engaged in promoting help through the provision of appropriate services,
  • To provide the above for the inhabitants within Congresbury and the surrounding environs, especially those who have need because of age, mental or physical impairment, or poverty, or social isolation.

The Board of Trustees has established close and positive relations with user groups and encourages feedback from user groups concerning the service they receive, and how this could be improved. It is intended to continue to hold an annual “Villagers’ Day” where the minibus will be at a central location and give everyone the opportunity to examine the facilities and take a ride.

Congresbury Parish Council finances the village website “Congresbury-somerset.org.uk”, which is maintained by Congresbury Editorial Team, a group of volunteers interested in promoting information about Congresbury. Congresbury Community Transport is included in this website under “Transport”, where there is a link to CCT’s own web pages. The trustees have excellent relations with the local print media, “Bluey I” and now “Bluey II” regularly feature in the three local weekly newspapers and has appeared on HTV local news. A set of “Publicity Posters” containing press cuttings and photographs of Bluey I & II serving the local community is maintained and is displayed at all suitable village events.

Two Congresbury Parish Councillors also serve as trustees, and provide a direct link with Congresbury Parish Council. Reports are made to and discussed with the Council as well as with village residents who attend the Annual Parish Council Open Meeting.

North Somerset Council’s own Transport Officer is invited to all meetings of the Board of Trustees and is provided with copies of CCT’s Constitution, current Business Action Plan and Annual Reports and Financial Statements. Their Transport Officer is a very useful source of advice as well as the annual financial grant from North Somerset Council.

Considerable assistance continues to be provided by Community Action as a body, and in particular by its Rural Transport Officer and by its Transport Adviser, who attends and gives advice at CCT meetings. This assistance has included training sessions for the trustees, regular contact, advice from their Rural Transport Officer and their Development Officer. Community Action’s day long annual Transport Conferences provide CCT delegates with information, training and opportunities to meet and share experiences with other local community transport groups. The established Rural Transport Partnership between two local unitary authorities, North Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset, provides a valuable additional link with the wider community.

The present Board of Trustees are very aware of the importance of promoting community spirit with both local individuals and businesses. Congresbury Community Transport encourages such involvement in the belief that this enables individuals to continue to develop valuable proven and potential abilities, interpersonal skills and social cohesion, for all local residents, including Youth, Working and Third Age.
